Springfield, Illinois - The City of Springfield's Office of Public Works will pick up natural fir and

evergreen Christmas trees and wreaths within the corporate city limits of Springfield that are set out at

the curb no later than 7:00 a.m. on Monday, January 8, 2024. Trees are to be placed at the curb for pickup

and not impede traffic flow. City crews will make one pass through the neighborhoods beginning

January 9 and continue throughout the month until all trees and wreaths are collected.

Please note: Waste Management and Republic Services will not pick up or dispose of real Christmas

trees. Lake Area Disposal will pick up natural fir and evergreen trees after the City's pick-up has

concluded if their customers contact the company directly. Lake Area Disposal will charge a fee for this

pick-up service.

Trees cannot have any ornaments, tinsel, decorations, nails or screws, or wooden tree stands nailed to

the bottom of the trees. Likewise, garlands and wreaths with wire will not be accepted. Flocking

(synthetic dust or powder that makes the tree look as if it has snow on the branches) on Christmas trees

cannot be recycled, so the flocking must be removed as much as possible.

Please be mindful of where you place your Christmas trees for residents awaiting curbside pick-up. City

crews may utilize equipment during the collection process. Consequently, any structures around or

underneath the tree may be damaged during collection. The City asks all residents to look out for and

avoid placement in the following locations. This will help maintain the structural integrity and safety of our

crews

  • Utility holes
  • Handholes
  • Junction Boxes
  • Meter Pits
  • Inlets
  • Drains
  • Poles/Posts
  • General Equipment or Structures
  • Sidewalks
  • Bike Lanes
  • Boulevards
