$5 Billion Dollars in Unclaimed Funds Owed to Illinoisan Residents

The State Treasurer of Illinois is holding more than $5 billion dollars in unclaimed funds for Illinoisan residents. According to a recent announcement, the State holds these lost funds until they are claimed by either the original owner or their heirs. As stated, "Property is returned at no cost with the proper identification."

Illinoisans who suspect they may have unclaimed funds waiting for them can easily check their status by visiting the official website of the State Treasurer. In addition to unclaimed funds, the State of Illinois is also offering assistance to residents who require help with income tax preparation. The statement mentions, "Free income tax preparation help is available for qualified Illinois residents."
