State Representative Wayne Rosenthal (R-Morrisonville) has expressed concerns about wasteful spending, limited job opportunities, and high taxes threatening the values of small-town communities in Illinois. According to Rosenthal, these issues are contributing to a population decline as families seek better opportunities elsewhere.

“Small-town values in the 108th district spread throughout the communities and give families a sense of safety and security,” said Rep. Rosenthal. “I see too much wasteful spending on projects and programs that don’t benefit Illinois residents. High taxes continue to hold down families trying to get ahead and we are seeing more people leave our cherished communities because of poor public policy.”

Rosenthal supports several legislative measures aimed at protecting small-town communities in his district and across Illinois:

- House Bill 1582: Repeals the Estate Tax

- House Bill 4187: Repeals the Illinois TRUST Act

- House Bill 2986: Caps Rate of Growth of General Funds Appropriations

- House Bill 4716: Limits any change in assessment resulting from reassessment in the general assessment year to the lesser of 3% of the assessed value of the property or change in the Consumer Price Index during the 12-month calendar year.

- House Bill 2288: Expands veteran-owned small businesses by redefining a “small business” as having annual gross sales of less than $150 million rather than less than $75 million.

Rosenthal emphasized that good-paying jobs, safe communities, and lower taxes are essential for keeping Illinois families together after college and into retirement.

“Illinois can become a better place to live and raise a family, but we must have bipartisan agreements on policies that foster economic growth and opportunities,” Rosenthal continued. “I will continue to stand up for rural communities and their values so families can live a prosperous life without burdens from high taxes and insecurities.”

Representative Wayne Rosenthal serves constituents in Illinois’ 108th District, which includes Menard County and portions of Christian, Macoupin, Montgomery, and Sangamon Counties.
