Senator Bennett has announced several updates and upcoming events, including a session titled "Coffee and Conversation with Senator Bennett" scheduled for September 25 at the Coffee Steamer in Forest, Illinois.

ADM has reported detecting CO2 fluid just above the permitted confining zone in one of their deep monitoring wells to the US EPA. Both entities are working together on next steps. The U.S. EPA confirmed that there is no threat to drinking water supplies, including the Mahomet Aquifer. The SAFE CCS Act passed earlier this year focuses on carbon sequestration safety and environmental protection.

Cyberattacks against government entities are increasing nationwide, including in Illinois. Data from the Center for Internet Security shows a significant rise in malware and ransomware attacks in 2023 compared to 2022. Several government offices in Illinois have been affected by these cyber threats, prompting enhanced security measures and collaboration at state and federal levels. State Senator Bennett emphasized the importance of protecting digital infrastructures from cyber threats.

The Bright Start College Savings Program will undergo changes starting September 30 as TIAA takes over as program manager. These changes include reduced fees and a new mobile app for managing accounts. Additionally, parents or guardians can claim a $50 seed deposit online for children born or adopted on or after January 1, 2023.

The Illinois Department of Agriculture announced record-breaking attendance at the 2024 Illinois State Fair, with over 773,000 attendees. This year's fair saw increased carnival revenue and record-breaking Grandstand performances by artists such as Lil Wayne.

As of now, the State of Illinois owes approximately $1.69 billion to state vendors with over 13,000 pending vouchers. This figure does not include estimated debts like unfunded pension liabilities.
