Illinois College cross country teams both secure fifth place at Greenville Classic

The Illinois College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Greenville University Classic on Friday night. The women's team ran a 5k race, while the men's team took part in an 8k race. Both teams achieved fifth-place finishes among ten competing teams. The women's team scored 134 points, and the men's team scored 123.

In the women's race, Alexia Finch led her team with a time of 21:14.7, finishing in 19th place overall. She was closely followed by Kairy Mercado-Ramos, who finished in 20th place with a time of 21:16.2. Maddison Dortch also placed within the top-25, finishing 24th with a time of 21:54.8.

Claire Peters completed her run with a time of 23:42.3 for a 42nd-place finish, while Morgan Carrino crossed the line at 24:57.8 to secure the 49th spot.

For the men's team, Devin Boggs led with a time of 27:44.6, earning him a 14th-place finish overall. Elgin Scherff followed closely behind, completing his run in 28:18.0 for a personal placement of 26th.

First-year runner Robby Biesenthal finished with a time of 28:39.9 in the same race.

Nick Hannig and Will Detmer recorded times of 29:19.8 and 29:38.0 respectively, securing them the positions of 42nd and 43rd overall among participants.

Other athletes from Illinois College who participated include Caden Dettmer, Ryan Gerdes, Gabe Roberts, and Steven Doss.

Both teams are set to compete next at the Midwest Conference Championships in Grinnell, Iowa on Saturday, October 28 at an event starting at 11 AM.
