Illinois College men's tennis concludes season at Midwest Conference Tournament

The Illinois College men's tennis team concluded their 2023-24 season at the Midwest Conference Men's Tennis Tournament hosted by Cornell College. The event, held over three days in Madison, Wisconsin, saw participation from seven IC student-athletes who competed in both doubles and singles matches.

In the No. 1 doubles match, Jeff Wernsing and Glenn Conway of IC faced Caleb Sippel and Austin Stevens from Ripon College. Wernsing and Conway secured an 8-0 victory but were later defeated by Lucas Willett and Aiden Klass with a score of 1-8 in the semifinals.

Grayson Dupre and Andrus Dupre represented IC in the No. 2 doubles match against Ty Rondestvedt and Jaden Francis of Ripon. They managed to win one set but ultimately lost the match 1-8. Allen Oakley and Antonio Loaiza played for IC in the No. 3 doubles match against Owen Horton and Rahul Sabnis, ending with a score of 2-8.

In singles competition, Wernsing reached the consolation finals after defeating Sawyer Day of Monmouth but was defeated by Caleb Sippel of Ripon. Conway advanced to the semifinals in the No. 2 singles after overcoming Austin Stevens but was eventually beaten by Lucas Willett.

Grayson Dupre competed against Owen Horton in the No. 3 singles match, losing after a tiebreaker set followed by a close second set defeat. In his consolation finals match against Ty Rondestvedt, Dupre lost with a score of 6-8.

Andrus Dupre progressed to the semifinals in the No. 4 singles after winning against Cole Witucki but fell to Albert Bostoen of Grinnell College.

Allen Oakley participated in the No. 5 singles match where he lost to Ethan Uribe but won his consolation match against Nehemiah Declaw with an impressive straight sets victory.

Momir Vickovic competed in the No. 6 singles quarterfinals, losing initially but securing a win over Kyle Pelzek from Ripon on the consolation side with an 8-4 scoreline.

With this tournament's conclusion, Illinois College men's tennis team wrapped up their season for 2023-24.
