The Illinois College men's tennis team faced a challenging weekend with two road matches in the Chicagoland area. On April 20, 2024, the Blueboys competed against Lake Forest College and Elmhurst, resulting in losses for both encounters.
In their first match against Lake Forest College, Illinois College struggled in doubles competition, losing all three matches with scores of 1-8. The team's sole victory came from Grayson Dupre in the No. 3 singles match. Dupre dominated his opponent with a 6-1 win in the first set and secured the match with a 6-3 victory in the second set.
The second match of the day was against Elmhurst, where Illinois College showed improvement. They managed to secure one of three doubles matches, with Jeff Wernsing and Glenn Conway winning the No. 1 doubles match by an 8-2 score. Despite efforts from Andrus Dupre and G. Dupre, as well as Momir Vickovic and Allen Oakley, they lost their respective doubles matches.
In singles play against Elmhurst, Illinois College earned victories in the No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 positions. A. Dupre achieved a straightforward win at No. 4 singles with scores of 6-1 and 6-3. Oakley had a challenging battle at No. 5 singles but emerged victorious after losing the first set (5-7), winning the second (6-3), and securing an intense tiebreaker (11-9). Vickovic also succeeded at No. 6 singles after dropping his second set but clinched victory in a tiebreaker (10-4).
Conway's effort at No. 2 singles saw him start strong with a 6-2 win but ultimately fall short after losing the second set (2-6) and dropping the tiebreaker (5-10).
The Blueboys now have four days to regroup before heading to Madison, Wisconsin for the Midwest Conference Tournament on April 25.
