The Illinois College men's golf team wrapped up the 2024 SLIAC Championships with a strong performance at Metamora Fields Golf Course, finishing in a tie for fourth place with Lake Forest. The Blueboys set four school records on the final day of the tournament. Jarrett James, Cole Bartels, and Dane Huber all achieved under-par scores during this round.
The team broke two records: the lowest 18-hole tournament score of 276 and the lowest 54-hole team score of 873. The new record for the lowest 18-hole tournament score surpassed the previous mark by 11 strokes, while the new lowest 54-hole team score improved by 51 shots.
Individually, Jarrett James made history by setting two new school records. He recorded the lowest individual 18-hole round score of 66, surpassing the previous record by two shots. Additionally, he set a new record for the lowest 54-hole individual tournament score of 212, beating the former record by ten strokes.
James earned a First-Team All-SLIAC selection after tying for second place overall with a tournament score of 212 and a final round score of 66. Cole Bartels was named to the Second-Team All-SLIAC team after tying for tenth place overall with a tournament score of 217 and a best round of 68. Both athletes have now been selected to an All-SLIAC team twice in their careers.
James led his team with his five-under-par round score of 66. He began his final round with a birdie on hole five and tallied nine pars, seven birdies, and two bogeys throughout his game. His overall performance included rounds of 77, 69, and 66.
Bartels secured his Second-Team All-SLIAC spot with a three-under-par final round score of 68. Starting on hole six, he managed four straight pars along with two birdies in his first nine holes. He finished with rounds of 79,70,and68andcollected11pars,fivebirdies,andtwobogeysinthetournament.Huberachievedatwo-underparscoreof69inhisfinalround,havingbegunonholesevenwithapar.Inthefirstnineholes,hescoredfiveparsandtwobirdies.Hefinishedthetournamentinatiewith22ndplacewithascoreof223fromroundsof79and75andanother69.PeterHauseralsocontributedtotheteam'ssuccessbyfinishinginatiewith19thplaceoverall.Hebeganwithabirdieonholesixandcompletedtheroundwith11parsandthreebirdiesforatournamentscoreof221.SamuelFrericksroundedouttheteam'sperformancewithaneight-overparscoreof79,tallying12parsforthetournamentandfinishinginatiewith41stplace.TheBlueboyshaveofficiallyconcludedtheir2023-24seasonfollowingthisthree-dayevent.
