Illinois College has appointed TJ Ervin as the new assistant men's basketball coach. This announcement was made by IC Head Coach Steve Schweer, who expressed enthusiasm about Ervin's return to the program.
"We are thrilled to welcome TJ back to the program," said Schweer. "TJ brings a wealth of basketball knowledge to our staff and will be a tremendous representative for the program away from the court."
Ervin is rejoining Illinois College after serving as a graduate assistant on the University of South Florida basketball staff for two years. During his tenure in Tampa, he undertook various responsibilities, including coordinating player workouts, creating opponent scouting reports, editing video footage, analyzing game footage, preparing the scout team, and examining in-game defensive matchups. He contributed to the coaching staff that led the Bulls to win the 2024 American Athletic Conference regular season title.
Previously, Ervin played for Illinois College's Blueboys from 2019-21 and later worked as a student manager at Missouri. In this role, he assisted with video scouting reports and on-campus recruiting itineraries. Additionally, he served as an assistant coach at Father Tolton High School during his time in Columbia.
Beyond his coaching roles, Ervin worked as a Sports and Competition Lead for Mizzou Rec Services and has been involved as a College Mentor in Chicago since 2015.
Ervin hails from Naperville, Illinois. He played high school basketball at Providence St. Mel in Chicago under his father Tim's coaching, where they won a state title together.
He holds Communications degrees from both Missouri (Bachelor of Arts) and South Florida (Master's).
