The Illinois men's track and field team achieved notable success at the Monmouth Thursday Night Special held at April Zorn Memorial Stadium. The event saw three of its athletes securing first-place finishes.
Elgin Scherff led the team in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:04.42. Gabe Roberts excelled in the 800 meters, clocking a time of 2:09.37. Drake Mudd marked his victory in the triple jump with a distance of 11.59 meters.
The team's efforts also included several second-place finishes. Will Detmer secured this position in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:13.47 on the track. In field events, Deon Rodgers achieved second place in discus with a throw measuring 43.83 meters, while Adam Sipes reached second place in long jump at 6.13 meters.
Rodgers also attained third place in shot put with a mark of 13.86 meters.
Looking ahead, part of the Blueboys will participate in the Drake Relays on Friday, and they plan to compete as a full team at the Fighting Scot Invitational on May 4th.
