Springfield School District 186 had the highest enrollment among Sangamon County districts, welcoming 12,911 students during the 2022-23 school year, according to the Illinois State Board of Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51.8% of them were boys, 48.1% were girls, and 0.1% identified themselves as non-binary or did not specify their gender.

The most represented ethnicity among Springfield School District 186 students was Black, comprising 44% of the student population.

Among the 10 districts in Sangamon County, Ball-Chatham Community Unit School District 5 ranked second in enrollment numbers with 4,615 students, while Rochester Community Unit School District 3A welcomed 2,063 students and ranked third in the 2022-23 school year.
