The Illinois College baseball team secured a victory over Fontbonne University, extending their winning streak to four games. The game, held at Shaw Park in St. Louis, concluded with a score of 10-8 in favor of the Blueboys, bringing their season record to 4-0.
Jacob Smith started as the pitcher for Illinois College but faced an early challenge with runners on the corners. A passed ball allowed Fontbonne to take a 1-0 lead.
In response, Connor Hennemann walked in the second inning, followed by Jon Tate's double. Logan Schweigert then tied the game with a single that brought Hennemann home. Further contributions from Ryan Huskey and Ryne Mapes helped IC gain a 3-1 lead.
Fontbonne retaliated in their half of the second inning with five runs, highlighted by Blake Van Beers' grand slam, putting them ahead at 7-3. Logan Lougeay was brought in as relief and prevented further scoring.
Adam Passmore narrowed the gap in the fourth inning with a three-RBI single, making it 6-7. Lougeay kept Fontbonne from scoring again during his stint on the mound.
In the fifth inning, Huskey's two-RBI triple regained an 8-7 lead for IC. After some defensive errors allowed Fontbonne to tie at eight each, Ben Jarboe took over pitching duties and maintained control through additional innings without allowing more runs.
Passmore and Louie Bartletti’s singles in the eighth set up Nolan Decker to advance IC's score when a throw error by Fontbonne enabled Passmore to score. Hennemann added another run with an RBI single.
Charlie Lardi closed out the game effectively for IC by recording six outs across two innings without allowing walks and striking out three players.
Six Blueboys achieved multiple hits during this match, with Passmore and Huskey each contributing three RBIs. Ben Jarboe earned credit for this win among four pitchers used by IC.
Illinois College is set to compete next at the Russ Matt Central Florida Invitational against Saint Mary's University of Minnesota starting March 3 in Davenport, Florida.
