Illinois College's football team achieved a significant milestone with a commanding 84-0 victory over Lawrence University during their homecoming game at England Stadium. This win marked the program's 500th victory, improving the Blueboys' record to 5-2 overall and 4-2 in the Midwest Conference. Meanwhile, Lawrence fell to 1-6 overall and 1-5 in league play.
The Blueboys dominated from the start, taking a 21-0 lead in the first quarter. Collin Brunstein caught a 40-yard pass from quarterback Destin Chance to open the scoring. Trey Birdsong followed with another touchdown reception from Chance, this time for 58 yards. Talan McElroy added to the tally by returning an interception for a touchdown.
In the second quarter, Kyle Leonard scored on a 20-yard pass from Chance, who then connected again with Brunstein for a 44-yard touchdown. Chance also ran seven yards for another score, giving IC a substantial halftime lead of 42-0.
The third quarter saw more action as Brunstein and Chance combined once more for a three-yard touchdown pass. Lleyton Miller contributed with a 45-yard run, and Brunstein capped off his performance with a 67-yard reception from Chance. The quarter ended with Chance scoring on a one-yard run.
Backup quarterback Tyson Elliott opened the fourth quarter with a three-yard rushing touchdown, while Miller closed out the day's scoring with a 19-yard run. Toby McTamney successfully made all ten extra point attempts.
Chance had an impressive day completing 14 of his 20 passes for six touchdowns and accumulating 341 yards. Brunstein recorded six receptions totaling 190 yards and four touchdowns. The ground game was equally strong, highlighted by Miller's eight carries for 140 yards and two scores alongside Tanner Spencer's twelve carries for 113 yards.
Defensively, Drake Stuart led with twelve tackles as IC secured its first shutout of the season. Cam Dailey added ten tackles including two for loss.
"Blue Notes" revealed that IC has won thirteen of its last fifteen regular-season games and eighteen of its last twenty-two overall contests. They have averaged nearly sixty points per game over their past twelve regular-season matches dating back to last season.
Brunstein set school records with his career totals reaching over four thousand receiving yards and sixty-five touchdown receptions. He is now fourth in career catches at IC but is close to moving into third place. Meanwhile, Chance approaches becoming IC's all-time leader in touchdown passes needing only nine more to reach that milestone.
Next Saturday, Illinois College will travel to Grinnell for their final road game of the regular season scheduled at 1:00 p.m.
