Greenville College's women's basketball team secured a victory against Illinois College with a final score of 67-64 at Glennie Gymnasium. The match, held on Friday, saw Greenville overcoming a six-point halftime deficit to clinch their first win of the season, bringing their record to 1-3. Meanwhile, Illinois College now stands at 2-2 for the season.
The game started with a closely contested first quarter where Illinois College (IC) managed to secure a lead of 16-11 with just over two minutes remaining and finished the quarter ahead by one point at 20-19. In the second quarter, IC extended their advantage by outscoring Greenville 11-6, leading to a halftime score of 31-25 in favor of IC.
In the third quarter, IC expanded their lead to ten points with just over six minutes left. However, Greenville narrowed the gap and concluded the quarter trailing by only one point at 45-44.
The fourth quarter began with Greenville launching a strong offensive effort, resulting in a 10-2 run that put them ahead at 54-46. Although IC responded with a nine-point streak to regain the lead briefly at 55-54 with just over five minutes remaining, it was their last lead in the game.
Anna McKee was IC's top scorer with 19 points. Ashlyn Wightman contributed significantly as well, achieving a double-double with 18 points and securing 14 rebounds along with four blocks. These two seniors were the only players from IC to reach double figures in scoring during this match.
Illinois College will remain in Monmouth for their next game against Westminster scheduled for tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
