Illinois College falls to WashU ahead of conference volleyball matches

The Illinois College women's volleyball team faced a setback in their recent match against Washington University in St. Louis. The contest, held on Wednesday, ended with WashU emerging victorious as they continue to hold their #8 ranking among Division III teams.

With this defeat, Illinois College's record now stands at 8-10 for the season, while WashU improved to 15-4. The match scores were 28-26, 25-22, and 25-13 across three sets.

Ligaya Garibay was a standout player for the Lady Blues, contributing 12 kills. Riley Drake also made a significant impact with 11 kills. Summer Brandis led the team in assists with 14, followed closely by Kahli O'Neal who added another 12 assists.

On the defensive side, Ella Middleton recorded 14 digs for Illinois College. Both teams concluded the match with a .213 hitting percentage; however, errors proved costly for Illinois College.

Looking ahead, the Lady Blues are set to travel again as they prepare to begin conference play. Their next match is scheduled for Friday at Lawrence University, starting at 7:00 pm.
