Illinois College volleyball splits results at Millikin Invitational opener

The Illinois College volleyball team participated in the opening night of the 2024 Millikin Invitational, achieving a split result. The Lady Blues began the tournament with a victory against Anderson University, winning in straight sets (25-16, 25-18, 25-18). However, they were defeated by the host team, Millikin University, also in three sets (25-20, 25-12, 27-25).

Following these matches, Illinois College's record stands at 5-7 for the season. Anderson University's record is now 6-1 and Millikin University has improved to 11-2.

In their first match against Anderson University, Illinois College showcased a strong performance. Alyssa Burglund, Ella Ausmus, and Ligaya Garibay each contributed seven kills. Summer Brandis and Kahli O'Neal collectively added 23 assists and both players recorded two aces during the match. The Lady Blues restricted Anderson to a .019 hitting percentage as Anderson committed 23 attacking errors.

During their second match against Millikin University, who was ranked 11th nationally prior to the game, Illinois College faced a formidable opponent. Ligaya Garibay and Riley Drake combined for 19 of the team's total of 27 kills. Summer Brandis led with 12 assists while Kahli O'Neal contributed an additional 11 assists. Defensively, Riley Drake tallied 12 digs.

Millikin completed the match with a .254 attack percentage and had three players achieving double-digit kills. Additionally, Millikin scored eight points from blocks contributing to their overall performance.

The Lady Blues will continue competing at Millikin with upcoming matches against Franklin College and Hanover College.
