The Illinois College women's volleyball team faced a setback in their recent match against Monmouth College, losing in four sets. The match, held on Friday evening, resulted in a 3-1 victory for Monmouth. This outcome adjusts Illinois College's season record to 11-11 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while Monmouth improves to 13-8 overall and maintains an undefeated 3-0 record in conference matches.
In the opening set, Illinois College fell short with a score of 25-22 but managed to equalize by winning the second set 25-15. However, Monmouth secured the win by taking the next two sets with scores of 25-19 each.
Ligaya Garibay was a standout player for Illinois College, leading with 13 kills. Despite her efforts, the team struggled with a .120 hitting percentage and committed 26 hitting errors. Monmouth also faced challenges with errors but ended the match with a slightly better hitting percentage of .151 and made 22 errors. Overall, Illinois College recorded a total of 49 errors during the match.
Summer Brandis played a crucial role as the primary passer for Illinois College, contributing 22 assists out of the team's total of 40. Defensively, the Lady Blues accumulated 68 digs, with Alex Johnson achieving 19 and Riley Drake adding another 13. Laura Kaiser continued her strong performance following her recognition as Midwest Conference Offensive Player of the Week by leading defensively with five solo blocks.
