Illinois College volleyball splits matches during Homecoming event

The Illinois College women's volleyball team participated in a three-team round robin event during their Homecoming 2024, themed "Hollywood on the Hilltop." The Lady Blues achieved a victory and a defeat, starting with a 3-0 conference win against Lake Forest before losing to Central College by the same score.

Following these matches, Illinois College's record stands at 12-14 for the season, with two regular-season games left. Lake Forest's record is now 4-17, while Central College improved to 18-7.

In their match against Lake Forest, Illinois College secured a win with set scores of 25-15, 25-9, and 25-13. The Lady Blues displayed strong performance with a .304 hitting percentage. Ella Ausmus led her team with 11 kills on 17 attempts and achieved a .647 hitting percentage. Ligaya Garibay contributed seven kills, while Haylie Orton and Riley Drake each added six. Alex Johnson led defensively with 15 digs, supported by Garibay's additional 11 digs. Laura Kaiser also contributed defensively with two block solos.

Against Central College, Illinois College struggled offensively with a .156 hitting percentage compared to Central's .289. Laura Kaiser recorded eight kills on 13 attempts for a .538 hitting percentage. Summer Brandis provided 17 assists and four digs; Garibay led the team defensively again with ten digs. Delani Klass had six kills on eleven attempts. The Lady Blues made 43 errors in this match compared to Central's 27.

Looking ahead, the Lady Blues aim for another conference win as they face Knox College at home on Saturday, November 2nd at 1:00 pm for senior night.
