The Illinois College women's volleyball team faced a setback in their Midwest Conference match against Cornell College, losing 3-1. The match took place on Saturday in Jacksonville, Illinois.
Cornell's victory improves their overall record to 10-11 and maintains an undefeated streak of 3-0 in conference play. Meanwhile, the Lady Blues' record falls to 11-13 overall and 2-3 within the conference.
In the match, Illinois College started strong by winning the first set with a score of 25-18. However, they were unable to maintain their momentum and lost the subsequent sets with scores of 25-18, 25-16, and 25-11.
Cornell achieved a hitting percentage of .226 during the game, led by Ilah Perez-Johnson who contributed 14 kills. In contrast, Illinois College managed a hitting percentage of .074. Ligaya Garibay was notable for the Lady Blues with her performance of 10 kills and 11 digs. Haylie Orton and Riley Drake each added seven kills to support their team's offense. Summer Brandis provided leadership in assists with a total of 17 while also contributing a team-high of 12 digs. Kahli O'Neal added another 12 assists.
This defeat leaves Illinois College in fifth place within the conference standings as they approach their final three conference games.
Looking ahead, the Lady Blues will face Lake Forest on Saturday, October 26th at noon for Homecoming at Illinois College.
