Illinois College women’s basketball secures dominant win over Monmouth

The Illinois College women's basketball team secured a significant victory against Monmouth College with a final score of 75-50. This result brings the Lady Blues to a record of 4-8 overall and 1-2 in conference play, while Monmouth drops to 4-9 overall and 1-3 in conference standings.

In their home game, the Lady Blues showcased strong performance by shooting 45.7% from the field. They effectively restricted Monmouth to just 25% shooting and also won the rebound battle with a margin of 47-41.

The Lady Blues excelled inside, scoring 38 points in the paint and taking advantage of turnovers to add another 22 points. Their dominance was clear as they only trailed for a brief period of one minute and fifty-three seconds throughout the game.

Ashlyn Wightman played a key role with an impressive double-double, achieving a career-high of 26 points alongside eleven rebounds, shooting at an efficiency rate of twelve out of nineteen from the field. Jayln Patterson added twelve points and seven rebounds, while Anna McKee contributed ten points including two successful three-pointers.

"Ashlyn Wightman now has 964 career points," said a spokesperson for Illinois College Athletics, noting that she is "36 points away from achieving the 1,000-career point milestone at IC."

Looking ahead, the Lady Blues are scheduled to play against Beloit College on Wednesday, January 8th at 5:30 pm in another conference matchup.
