Last week, the Illinois House of Representatives voted on the rules for the 104th General Assembly. The vote presented an opportunity to focus on good governance and transparency, but Republicans were excluded from the process. State Representative Wayne Rosenthal (R-Morrisonville) commented on this development.
"The House of Representatives had an opportunity to return representative democracy to the people of Illinois, but that failed to happen, and the status quo will remain in place with the House Rules for the 104th General Assembly," said Rep. Rosenthal. "The majority party continues to conduct business in a way that ultimately has a negative effect on residents in our state. People deserve to be represented by an honest government that works through transparency and truth."
House Republicans made recommendations they deemed fair, but these were dismissed as the majority party chose to maintain rules from the Madigan era. According to Rosenthal, this leads to abuses of the legislative process, such as passing budgets without public knowledge or input. He emphasized that Illinois residents deserve better representation and pledged that House Republicans would continue advocating for economic growth, no new taxes, and eliminating wasteful spending.
