The Illinois College women's basketball team faced a challenging conference game against Knox College on Tuesday night, resulting in an 84-69 defeat. Despite strong performances from several Lady Blues players, Knox improved their season record to 8-6 overall and 3-2 in conference play. Meanwhile, Illinois College's record now stands at 5-11 overall and 2-5 in the conference.
The first half of the game was closely contested, with seven lead changes and both teams tied at 42 points each by halftime. The Lady Blues managed to shoot 60% in the second quarter to keep the score even. However, Knox took control in the third quarter with a shooting percentage of 68%, securing a nine-point lead heading into the final quarter. In the second half, Illinois College was limited to just nine made field goals.
Jayln Patterson led Illinois College with a career-high performance, scoring 27 points on 13-of-21 shooting. Ashlyn Wightman also delivered a notable double-double with 14 points, 12 rebounds, and six blocks, tying her career high for blocks. Raegen Stringer contributed significantly with a career-high of 12 assists.
Ashlyn Wightman is now only 11 points away from joining the Illinois College 1,000-point club. Additionally, Raegen Stringer's assist tally ties her for third place all-time at Illinois College.
Illinois College will next compete against Lake Forest College on Saturday at Sherman Gymnasium at 1:00 pm.
