Lady Blues fall short against Grinnell despite Wightman's double-double

Ashlyn Wightman led the Lady Blues with a double-double performance, but the team fell to Grinnell College 65-59 in a closely contested game at Darby Gym. This victory brings Grinnell's record to 13-7 overall and 7-4 in conference play, positioning them in fifth place. Meanwhile, the Lady Blues now stand at 7-13 overall and 4-7 in conference play.

Grinnell maintained control for most of the game, but the Lady Blues briefly took the lead with nine minutes left. With the score tied at 54-54 and three minutes remaining, Grinnell finished strong with an 11-5 run to secure their win.

Both teams faced offensive challenges. The Lady Blues shot better overall but struggled from beyond the arc, making only one out of seventeen attempts. They did dominate inside, scoring 38 points in the paint.

Wightman achieved her eighth double-double of the season with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Anna McKee and Jayln Patterson combined for a total of 22 points, with McKee scoring IC's only three-pointer. Kallie Oestreicher and Raegen Stringer each contributed three steals as IC forced Grinnell into committing sixteen turnovers.

The Lady Blues will continue their road games on Wednesday when they face Monmouth College at 5:30 pm.
