State Senator Sally J. Turner | Illinois General Assembly
State Senator Sally Turner has shared her views on the Governor's proposed budget following his recent address. Turner, a Republican from Beason, highlighted some positive aspects of the proposal while also expressing concerns about overall spending.
"There are positive aspects of this proposed budget, like the inclusion of funding to address the blighted Lincoln Developmental Center," she stated. Turner noted that addressing this issue has been a long-standing goal for her over the past four years through various legislative efforts. She expressed satisfaction that the Governor is now taking steps to address what she described as an "eyesore" and aims to repurpose the land for Central Illinois residents.
Despite these positives, Turner voiced apprehension about the scale of spending outlined in the budget. "In what was supposed to be a tight budget year, the Governor has instead proposed the largest spending plan in state history," she said. While acknowledging efforts to reduce costs in certain areas, such as non-citizen healthcare programs, Turner warned against excessive spending that could burden taxpayers.
As discussions on the budget continue this spring, Senator Turner emphasized her commitment to advocating for a balanced and sustainable financial plan. She reiterated her focus on unresolved issues like those concerning the Lincoln Developmental Center.
