State Representative Michael Coffey (IL) | Representative Michael J. Coffey, Jr. (R) 95th District
Rep. Coffey recently discussed the immigration situation in Illinois during an interview with Mark Hespen from WICS. He addressed the financial implications on taxpayers and expressed concerns about the current policies' impact on state resources.
According to Coffey, "Governor Pritzker has dialed back some spending on migrants because he realizes current policy is not sustainable and is breaking the state budget." He acknowledged these changes but still highlighted the ongoing burden on taxpayers who are required to fund services for migrants.
Coffey pointed out the challenges faced by residents in his district, stating, "I talk to folks from my district often who are working full-time and struggling to pay for healthcare while migrants are receiving free Cadillac healthcare, and it’s not fair to Illinois citizens. We need to act now and pass legislative reforms that put our citizens first."
Coffey emphasized the need for legislative reforms that prioritize the interests of Illinois citizens, aiming to ensure fairness and sustainability in state spending.
