Illinois Democrats are proposing an expansion of the service tax to encompass over 80 new categories. These categories include haircuts, car repair, landscaping, and home repair. The proposal has sparked concern among residents who already face high effective tax rates.

A statement from the press release reads: "Illinoisans already pay the highest effective tax rates in the nation. Now, Democrats want to expand the service tax to more than 80 new categories, including haircuts, car repair, landscaping, home repair and so much more."

The opposition argues that this proposal is an "egregious tax hike" and stresses the need to protect residents from increasing tax burdens.
