Illinois College men's soccer defeats Millikin; coach Philpott earns milestone win

The Illinois College men's soccer team secured a 4-0 victory over Millikin University on Wednesday night at Frank M. Lindsay Field in Decatur, Illinois. The win marks the 50th career college-level victory for Illinois College Head Coach Evan Philpott and improves the Blueboys' record to 1-0-1.

All four goals were scored in the first half. Oscar Liogon Arenas opened the scoring just over three minutes into the match, assisted by J'aiden Cranwell-Meneses. Tyler Lunning added a second goal five minutes later with an assist from Liogon Arenas.

Later in the half, Liogon Arenas netted his second goal of the game at the 36:37 mark, this time assisted by Lunning. Jason Hernadez closed out the first-half scoring at 41:18 after receiving an assist from Liogon Arenas, who finished with two goals and two assists.

Liogon Arenas led Illinois College with five shots as the team outshot Millikin 13-11. Goalkeeper Daniel Happach recorded eight saves to secure a shutout for Illinois College.

Severe weather in Decatur delayed the start of the match.

Illinois College will play its home opener against WashU on Sunday at England Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
