The Illinois College Blueboys secured a significant victory in the Midwest Varsity Esports Conference (MVEC) Rocket League competition by defeating preseason top-ranked Buena Vista 4–1 in a best-of-five series.
In the opening game, Illinois College took an early lead with a 5–3 win. Buena Vista responded in Game 2, tying the series with a 3–1 result. The Blueboys regained control in Game 3, shutting out their opponents 2–0. They continued their momentum in Game 4 with a close 2–1 win and finished the match by securing another 2–1 victory in Game 5.
"This was a strong team performance against a highly ranked opponent, showing resilience and composure in close games," according to the statement released by Illinois College.
Key player contributions included Dwight Duijneveld scoring four goals and providing two assists, Lucas Barry leading with five goals and four assists, and Glenn Conway adding three goals and three assists.
Illinois College will next compete against St. Ambrose on Monday, September 29 at 7:00 p.m., facing another top program that is considered an early-season favorite.
