Illinois College women's soccer secures conference-opening win over Ripon

The Illinois College women's soccer team began their 2025 Midwest Conference season with a 1-0 win over Ripon at England Stadium in Jacksonville, Illinois, on Saturday. The Lady Blues now hold a 5-5-1 overall record and are 1-0-0 in conference play. Ripon's record fell to 1-6-2 overall and 0-1-0 in the conference.

Illinois College scored the only goal of the match when Abby Keeton converted an assist from Olivia Ralston at the 28:13 mark of the first half. The Lady Blues maintained their lead for the remainder of the game, limiting Ripon to just two shots.

Goalkeeper Stella Gonzalez started for Illinois College and played nearly the first 25 minutes before Jesse Trost took over for the rest of the match. Gonzalez made one save, which was also the team's only save of the contest.

On offense, Illinois College attempted 20 shots. Katy Adler and Aliza Rodriguez led with four shots each, while Erin O'Connell and McKenzie Murray contributed three apiece. Abby Love added two shots.

This victory marks Illinois College's first win in a conference opener since defeating Monmouth in overtime during the 2016 season.

The Lady Blues will continue their conference schedule on Tuesday with an away match against Knox in Galesburg. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
