Illinois College secured a decisive 59-0 win over Lawrence University during its homecoming football game at England Stadium in Jacksonville, Illinois. The victory marked the Blueboys’ highest scoring performance and their first shutout of the season.
The Blueboys improved to a 3-1 overall record and 2-1 in Midwest Conference play, while Lawrence dropped to 0-4 and 0-2 in conference games.
Illinois College took control early, establishing a 28-0 lead after the first quarter. Kyle Leonard opened the scoring with a 24-yard touchdown catch from Tyson Elliott. Timo Kato followed with a 66-yard punt return for a touchdown. Elliott then ran for a 77-yard score before connecting again with Leonard on a 27-yard touchdown pass.
In the second quarter, Lleyton Miller ran for a 73-yard touchdown. Javen Alexander caught a five-yard touchdown pass from Elliott, and Justin Gipson added another score on a five-yard run, bringing the halftime score to 49-0.
The Blueboys added two more scores in the third quarter: Ki'on Carson had a four-yard rushing touchdown, and Toby McTamney made a 35-yard field goal. Afterward, Illinois College substituted freely for the rest of the game.
McTamney was successful on all seven extra point attempts and also made his only field goal attempt. Mia Gerger converted her lone kick of the day as well.
Illinois College outgained Lawrence University by totaling 410 yards to Lawrence’s 92 yards. The team rushed for 325 yards on just 32 carries.
Elliott led all rushers with 85 yards on three carries and also completed seven of eight passes for 94 yards and three touchdowns. Miller contributed an additional 82 rushing yards on four attempts, while Carson and Skyler Young combined for over one hundred rushing yards between them. Leonard finished as leading receiver with four catches for 66 yards and two touchdowns; Miller caught two passes for another 23 yards.
On defense, Daniel Guzevich recorded five tackles including one tackle-for-loss; Drake Stuart added four tackles; five other players each had three tackles.
Following this win, Illinois College has won nineteen of its last twenty-two regular-season games and twenty-four of its last twenty-nine overall contests. The team has now claimed eleven consecutive victories at England Stadium. McTamney has converted sixty-eight of his last sixty-nine extra point attempts.
Illinois College will travel next week to face Monmouth in another Midwest Conference matchup scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
