Illinois College Esports competed in two matches on Tuesday night, facing Coe College in Valorant and Illinois State University in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
In the Valorant matchup against Coe College as part of the Midwest Esports Conference, Illinois College lost 0–2. The team dropped the first map, Corrode, with a score of 3–13 and the second map, Lotus, 6–13. Dwight Duijneveld led Illinois College with 34 kills and a 1.39 KDA, while Fray Moulton contributed 29 kills. Despite some strong individual performances, the team struggled to keep pace with Coe College.
Regarding the Valorant match, the release stated: "Despite moments of strong play, IC couldn't find their rhythm against a disciplined Coe roster and will look to bounce back next week."
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Illinois College secured a 2–1 victory over Illinois State University in NECC play. After losing the second game, the team rallied in the final set. Julian Luaders was highlighted for taking eight stocks in Game 3, helping set up the win. Jake Petrovich finished the series by defeating Praspian. This result moves Illinois College to a 2–1 record for the season.
The press release described the conclusion: "After dropping the second game, the Blueboys battled back behind an incredible effort from Julian Luaders, who took eight stocks in Game 3 to set up the decisive finale. Jake Petrovich then closed out the series, defeating Praspian to secure the win and move IC to 2–1 on the season."
The Valorant team will next play Southwest Minnesota State University on Monday, October 13 at 8:00 p.m. The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team will face Illinois State University again on Tuesday, October 14 at 7:00 p.m.
