The Illinois College women's soccer team secured a spot in the Midwest Conference Tournament for the first time in its history after defeating Grinnell 2-0 on Saturday at Springer Field in Grinnell, Iowa.
With this win, Illinois College improved its overall record to 10-6-2 and 6-1-0 in conference play. Grinnell's record fell to 5-6-4 overall and 2-2-2 in the conference.
Holly Morehart opened the scoring for Illinois College, converting a pass from Aliza Rodriguez at the 19:46 mark. The team maintained a 1-0 lead at halftime. Olivia Hulsey added an unassisted goal at 63:38, securing the victory for the Lady Blues.
Rodriguez led the team with three shots, while Katy Adler and Ralston contributed two shots each. Goalkeeper Stella Gonzalez recorded six saves to keep a clean sheet for Illinois College.
The Lady Blues' 6-1-0 record in Midwest Conference play marks their best league performance to date. Their six conference wins set a new school record, and their 10 overall victories tie last season's total for the second-most in program history.
Illinois College will conclude its regular season at home against Lawrence on Saturday. The match is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. at England Stadium.
