Illinois College Lady Blues volleyball drops home doubleheader to Monmouth and Wisconsin-Platteville

The Illinois College Lady Blues volleyball team played two matches at Sherman Gymnasium on Saturday, facing Monmouth College in a Midwest Conference game and Wisconsin-Platteville in a non-conference contest. The Lady Blues lost both matches, dropping their first conference match of the season to Monmouth in five sets and then falling to Platteville in straight sets.

Against Monmouth, Illinois College battled through five sets with scores of 25-20, 17-25, 23-25, 25-20, and 13-15. Delani Klaas led the offense with 16 kills and a block assist for a total of 18 points. Haylie Orton contributed 10 kills, six service aces, and two blocks for 17 points. Riley Drake added 14 kills and ten digs. Setters Summer Brandis and Kahli O'Neal combined for 51 assists and 23 digs. Libero Mady Salisbury recorded 24 digs and two aces.

In the second match against Wisconsin-Platteville, the Lady Blues lost in three sets (25-27, 18-25, and 22-25). Freshman Angelina Rogers led with ten kills and a .273 hitting percentage. Riley Drake followed with eight kills and four aces. Orton had seven kills, two blocks, and a .600 hitting percentage. Brandis provided 14 assists along with fifteen digs while Salisbury led the defense again with fourteen digs.

With these results, Illinois College's overall record stands at nine wins and sixteen losses (9-16), including four wins and one loss (4-1) in Midwest Conference play.

The Lady Blues will play their remaining games on the road this season. Their next competition is scheduled for Tuesday, October 28th in Pella, Iowa at the Central Tri event where they will face Simpson College and Central College.
