State Representative Charlie Meier (R-Okawville) criticized Governor JB Pritzker after the governor signed an executive order attributing agricultural difficulties in Illinois to former President Trump. In a statement, Meier said, “JB Pritzker is too busy resisting everything President Trump does to actually help the people of Illinois. Farmers in Illinois have been preparing for a downward spiral for years, and Pritzker has done nothing to help us. Pritzker’s woke energy policies are causing the cost of running a farm to skyrocket. Pritzker’s refusal to fix the estate tax is forcing family farms to shutter. Pritzker’s other tax hikes will chase our largest tax base from the state and leave Illinois farmers with the bill. Pritzker’s real plan to help Illinois farmers is simple: blame Trump for everything and let our farms continue to suffer under his radical liberal policies.”
Meier serves as the Republican Spokesman on the House Agriculture and Conservation Committee and operates his family's Centennial Farm in Washington County.
Meier was elected as a Republican representative for Illinois' 109th House District in 2023, succeeding David Reis.
The 109th district includes parts or all of Bond, Clinton, Madison, St. Clair, and Washington counties.
