Springfieldpolice

The Springfield Police Department is looking to hire new officers and is holding orientation sessions for those who are interested in joining the police force.

The department aims to recruit patrol officers and lateral officers. Full information on the police testing and application process is available on the city’s website,

www.Springfield.Il.Us/PoliceTesting, and the deadline to apply is Sunday, May 22, at 11 p.m.

The first orientation session will be held on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 965, on East Cook Street. Another session will be held May 11 at 5 p.m. All sessions will be held at the

Springfield Council Chambers, 300 S. Seventh St., third floor.

To attend any of the orientation sessions, applicants must submit an online application through the city’s website. In addition, those interested should email the city’s Human Resources department at HumanResources@springfield.il.us or call 217-789-2446 to reserve a spot at one of the sessions.

To complete the process, applicants will be required to take written and physical exams. The physical exam is scheduled for Friday, June 3, and the written exam will take place on Saturday, June 4. An oral assessment will take place sometime in July.

Applicants will also have an opportunity to take a POWER test on Saturday, May 7, in which those who are interested can assess their physical skills before the required tests. This test is optional, but those who want to participate must contact the Human Resources Department at the aforementioned phone number in advance.
