Searchable pension database gets an update for 2017

Pension reform

The Better Government Association (BGA), a government transparency advocacy group, has released an updated version of its pension database to include 2017 data.

The database is an online searchable listing of names and monetary payout amounts for public sector retirees and their survivors in Illinois.

Public pensions are political fodder across the country, with the occasional shock story of a retired city worker receiving a large amount in publicly funded benefits. Nearly every state’s list of pensioners can be found in one form or another on the internet.

The BGA said its free database was established under its Rescuing Illinois Project, which includes a series of reports on state government.

The database website includes a separate link to its Public Safety Pension Portal, which allows users to look for Downstate and suburban fire and police pension recipients from smaller public-sector funds, although it was last updated in 2016, according to the website.
