John Eckert, an Illinois Department on Aging senior policy adviser, was honored by the Illinois Interagency Committee for Employees with Disabilities as the 2017 Outstanding Employee of the Year, a recent release said.
Eckert, who holds a master’s degree in Rehabilitation Administration and Services from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, has had a major role in the Department of Aging regarding the federal Money Follows the Person Demonstration Program aimed at better serving the elderly and those with disabilities, the Nov. 2 release said.
Eckert also chairs the state’s Inter-Agency Long-Term Services and Support rebalancing project for Medicaid and is co-lead for Older Americans Services Advisory Committee, the release said.
“For John, it’s about helping people," Department on Aging Director Jean Bohnhoff, who nominated Eckert for the award, said in the release. Whether it’s ensuring an individual can transition to a community with access to needed housing, or making sure a person has the supplies necessary to set up a new, independent living apartment, John’s always there."
