Illinois state Sen. Steve McClure (R-Springfield) is doing all he can to make sure cooler heads prevail as the coronavirus continues to wreak havoc across the state.
“Everywhere you go, there’s fear,” he told the West Central Reporter. “People are afraid of catching the virus and they’re fearful about what its spread will mean for their job or business. Not knowing how long any of this will last just makes it scarier.”
With all that in mind, McClure is pushing the government to do it all can to make life easier for the people of the state during this critical period.
“We need local government to step up and be a difference for people,” he said. “I think there should be a state tax break and other incentives as part of a coronavirus bill to help businesses and workers across the state.”
If McClure had his way, lawmakers will also move to delay the state minimum wage hike as a way of helping business owners get back on their feet before being hit with yet another deluge.
“These are different times and once all this is behind us, the government needs to be doing all it can do to help restore our economy as fast it can,” he said. “I think doing things like that is the best way of doing that.”
As of April 7, Illinois had over 12,262 known cases and over 307 deaths according to the Chicago Tribune.
Symptoms of the disease include a fever, shortness of breath and cough, though symptoms vary from person to person. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that people infected by the disease follow a list of guidelines that include staying in a single room in your home away from other people, wearing a face mask and disinfecting surfaces in your house including tables, sinks, toilets, phones and computers.
