Chatham FPD responds to 43 fires in 2018

Chatham Fire Protection Department responded to 136 calls in 2018 - 18.6 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Chatham included 43 fires - 19 structure fires, seven vehicle fires and 17 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $94,050 in fire loss - or about $2,187 per fire.

The department also received 92 false calls, including four malicious calls and 88 other false calls.

One fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents and one was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Chatham Fire Protection Department had an annual budget of $2,633,536 in 2018.

The Chatham FPD Firefighter's Pension Fund, which has 15 active employees and four retired or inactive employees, was $149,347 positive as of May 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $2,263 for every fire in 2017.
