Ball-Chatham Community Unit School District 5 issued the following announcement on Feb. 3.
The Glenwood High School Scholastic Bowl Team placed two teams in the top six overall at the SCOP Varsity Tournament hosted by Winnebago High School on January 30, 2021. Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the tournament was held online this year utilizing the Discord platform. This allowed for schools from across the state to participate, including teams from the Metro East area, central Illinois, and the Chicagoland area.
The GHS B team finished in sixth place overall, notching impressive wins over Chicago’s Francis W. Parker School and Mahomet-Seymour. The B team was led in scoring by senior Adepoju Arogundade, with a strong supporting cast made up of sophomores Hannah Havrilka, Matt Barry, Lily Frazee, and Megana Paidela.
The GHS A team took an undefeated record into the final against Belvidere North, losing a close match to finish in second place overall. The A team was led in scoring by junior Nikhil Gupta, who was named to the All-Tournament Team. Also putting in impressive performances for the A team were seniors Daniel Park, Nick Barry, and Allie Young, and junior Noah Yeager.
