Sen. Doris Turner (D-Carlinville) recently said that public airports have the option to apply for nearly $100 million of funding for improvement projects through a state construction program called Rebuild Illinois.

Every year, the Illinois Department of Transportation develops a program for the year and a list of programs that are expected for the next federal fiscal year to inform Illinoisans and assist local transportation stakeholders and business partners in planning.

Airports would be able to use the money for projects like updates, improvements, and extensions of their buildings.

"The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the Rebuild Illinois program will provide $94 million in funding to improve public airports throughout the state," Turner said in a May 12 Facebook post. "Through a competitive grant process, airports may submit project proposals for updates, improvements, and extensions of their facilities."

Applications are due June 14 to be eligible for grants of up to $25 million.

IDOT’s Airport Improvement Program page is where you can find more information on the application.

Awards are anticipated to be announced later this year.
