Village of Chatham Public Property and Recreation Committee Met July 12.

A. Call to Order
Chairman Saucier called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm.

No Public comments were received or presented.
B. Consent Agenda
1. Approval of Minutes from the May 10, 2021 PPRC meeting
A motion was made by L. Smith to approve the minutes from the May 10, 2021 meeting. This motion was seconded by P. Windisch. The motion passed with a voice vote.
C. Old Business
1. Possible grant funding from the state of Illinois
Dustin Patterson provided information regarding the grant funding and that the Village is still waiting for information from the state. There is no new information.
2. Current/proposed park maintenance projects
Dustin Patterson stated that the maintenance projects are still on hold as they await the final approval of the Village budget. Dustin Patterson also provided draft sketches of the expansion of the number of parking spots in the parking lot at Community Park. CMT Engineering provided the draft sketches and there was discussion amongst the Commissioners regarding this potential project. More discussion will occur and the Village Board will be brought up to speed on this draft proposal.
3. Community interest in establishing a skate park
There was no new information presented on this agenda item.
4. Community Garden update
There was general discussion on the success of the community garden. Everyone agreed that it seems to be popular.
D. New Business
1. Nature Reserve
Zack Burtle spoke to the Committee regarding his desire to explore options to create a natural habitat in the area of the proposed water retention pond on Village Property by the maintenance buildings on the south side of town. This lead to a broad discussion on the retention pond. Commissioner Detmers will discuss with the Village Board.
2. Farmers Market at Veterans Memorial Park
Chairman Saucier provided information that he had gathered from Downtown Springfield, Inc. regarding their set up and operation of the Downtown Springfield Farmers Market. There are numerous things that need to be explored and discussed before moving forward. The creation of a Committee/Advisory Board was proposed and it was agreed that more discussion would occur at the September meeting. Chairman Saucier will invite Kayla Graven of Downtown Springfield, Inc. to attend the September meeting.
