Chatham residents won’t have to travel far to visit the office of their state senator.
Sen. Steve McClure (R-Chatham) recently announced he is opening an office in Chatham.
"Chatham is one of the major population centers of the 50th District, so it’s important to make sure that people there can easily get to my office and receive assistance with any issues they have regarding state government,” McClure said on his website.
The office is at 20 Cottonwood Drive and it will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday most weeks. The phone number is 217-607-5015.
“Whether you have a major problem with a state agency or you just want to stop in and say hello, our doors are open to you,” McClure said in his announcement.
McClure’s other office in Jacksonville remains open (9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday) as does his Capitol office (9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays).
With recent redistricting, last November McClure said he would seek the seat in the redrawn 54th District. The current 50th District covers part of west-central Illinois, from Sangamon County to the Mississippi River. The new 54th stretches across 14 mostly rural counties in the central part of the state, from Petersburg to Staunton to Effingham to Moultrie County.
Since announcing his re-election bid, albeit for a different district, he has garnered endorsements from colleagues, including Sen. Jason Plummer (R-Edwardsville).
