State Rep. Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) is supporting Don Debolt in his bid for the 54th Senate District seat.
Niemerg believes that Debolt is the only candidate in the 54th Senate District race who will advocate for conservative values and who will fight for working families.
“Voters can count on Don Debolt to never waver when it comes to the values and principles of our party,” Niemerg said. “He will not vote to raise taxes unlike his opponent who voted to double the state’s gas tax. He will support parental rights, the right to life for the unborn and our right to keep and bear arms. Don Debolt will advocate for the reforms we need to turn Illinois around. I call on voters in the 54th District to join me in supporting conservative Don Debolt for Senate.”
Debolt said he is looking forward to going to Springfield to work with legislators including Niemerg and Rep. Blaine Wihour (R-Beecher City). Wilhour has also endorsed Debolt.
“Illinois is moving in the wrong direction, but we can turn our state around,” Debolt said. “What we need is new leadership and more lawmakers like Adam Niemerg and Blaine Wilhour who will put principles above politics. Like, Adam Niemerg, I will never compromise my values. We need spending reform – not tax increases. I am the only candidate in this race taxpayers can depend on to advocate for them.”
Debolt is a small business owner from Stewardson who has been a certified public accountant for over 45 years. He pledges to fight for tax relief.
Debolt is facing State Sen. Steve McClure (R-Springfield) in the June 28 primary.
In 2019, Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed a bill — which McClure voted for — doubling the state's gas tax. Illinois has the second-highest gas tax in the country, Sangamon Sun previously reported. Lawmakers are discussing the possibility of lowering or eliminating the tax.
The 54th District includes Christian, Cumberland, Effingham, Macon, Macoupin, Menard, Montgomery, Sangamon, and Shelby counties.
