Illinois State Rep. Sue Scherer (D-Decatur) is happy to see progress being made with the Springfield Rail Improvement Project as state officials celebrated the completion of the newest portion of the rail.
Scherer applauded the project and shared pictures of the official ribbon cutting in an October 6 Facebook post.
"Ribbon cutting for high speed rail at 5th/6th street today! This started the year I came in," Scherer wrote in the post. "Happy to see it to fruition!"
Scherer joined other elected officials at the ribbon-cutting ceremony including Rep. Tim Butler (R-Springfield), Springfield Mayor Jim Langfelder, U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), and Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton, WAND News reported.
Stratton acknowledged the support behind the rail project at both the state and federal level from both sides of the aisle and said, "we are building something much bigger for the future of our state and we are doing it together," according to WAND News.
Scherer has served in The Illinois House of Representatives since 2013. Her legislative experience includes serving as Chairperson on the Elem Sec Ed: Adm., Lic. & Charter committee and is a part of the Appropriately-Elementary and Secondary Education committee, according to The Illinois House website.
