Arthur Community Unit School District #305 Board of Education met Oct. 19.
Here are the minutes provided by the board:
The regular meeting of the Arthur Board of Education was called to order by President Beth Wiley at 6:01 pm, in the Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond High School Cafeteria with the following members in attendance: Suzi Berkich, Brock Casteel, Monica Green, Kristie Mechling. Ryan Nettles. Justin Wierman and Beth Wiley. Mr. Shannon Cheek and administrators were also present.
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
The following members of the high school golf team were recognized: Coach McGill, Braden Kauffman, Brady Moore, Nolan Schrock, Clay Seal, Aaron Seegmiller, Hunter Grant, Kendall Schrock, Avery Alexandar, Brooklyn Gingerich, Logan Schrock, and Lily Vanda. Mr. Jose Gobbo, the new band/music teacher for AHGS and LGS (pending board approval) was also recognized.
A motion was made by Brock Casteel, seconded by Justin Wierman to approve the consent agenda as presented which included: the Minutes of the September 21st, 2022 meeting, bills of $328,320.72, the Treasurer's Report, and donations. Upon roll, all members present voted yea. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Suzi Berkich, seconded by Kristie Mechling to approve the Auditor's Report as presented. Upon roll, all members present voted yea. Motion carried.
Administrative Reports were presented. See attached.
A motion was made by Monica Green, seconded by Suzi Berkich to approve the Superintendent's Goals as presented. All members present voted yea. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Suzi Berkich, seconded by Monica Green to approve the Risk Management Plan as presented. All members present voted yea. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Ryan Nettles, seconded by Monica Green to approve the School Maintenance Grant Application as presented. Upon roll, all members present voted yea. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Ryan Nettles, seconded by Monica Green to approve the BLDD Contract for HVAC project as presented. Upon roll, all members present voted yea. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Ryan Nettles, seconded by Justin Wierman to approve the CESO Baseline Communication Assessment as presented. Upon roll, all members present voted yea. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Brock Casteel, seconded by Ryan Nettles to approve donation for materials to Arthur Park District for field work as presented. Upon roll, all members present voted yea. Motion carried.
Superintendent's Report was presented.
During Board Comment, Suzi Berkich praised the service work by the high school students during Homecoming week. Ryan Nettles commended the work done on the audit.
A motion was made by Suzi Berkich, seconded by Ryan Nettles to go into closed session at 7:36 pm under the Open Meetings Act for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity. 5 ILCS 120/2 ( c )(1) and for collective negotiating matters between the public body and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(2). Upon roll, all members present voted yea. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Ryan Nettles, seconded by Justin Wierman to leave executive session at 8:15 pm. Upon roll, all present voted yea. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Ryan Nettles, seconded by Suzi Berkich to accept executive session minutes as read in executive session. Upon roll, all members present voted yea. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Ryan Nettles, seconded by Justin Wierman to approve the personnel report as presented which includes accepting the resignation of Sara Kirkpatrick as Social Worker at AHGS, accepting the intent to retire after the 2026-2027 school year from Marylisa Renfro, approving Jose Gobbo for music at LGS and AHGS, approving Brock Hayse as custodian at LGS, approving Marissa Hershberger as volunteer assistant coach for HS Girls Basketball, accepting the letter of resignation from Lynn Farmer at the JH Girls Basketball Coach at the end of the 2022-2023 school year. Upon roll, all members present voted yea. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Justin Wierman, seconded by Suzi Berkich to adjourn at 8:31 pm. Upon roll, all members present voted yea. Motion carried.
