Sen. Sally Turner thanked police officers across the state and recognized National Police Week in a May 15 Facebook post.

"Happy National Police Week! Thank you to all of the men and women of our law enforcement for everything you do to help keep us safe."

Turner, a Republican senator first elected in 2021, has been actively involved in legislative matters, serving on committees such as Ethics and Senate Higher Education, according to the Illinois General Assembly website.

National Police Week, an annual event honoring America's law enforcement community, is a collaborative effort involving numerous organizations. The National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund, one of the key contributors, highlighted the week's significance and mentioned the 35th Annual Candlelight Vigil, which took place on May 13, bringing together individuals to pay their respects.

In addition, Sen. Turner's Facebook post included a video statement where she acknowledged the challenges that law enforcement officers have faced in recent years.

"Happy National Police Week," Turner said. "You know in the last few years, we know that your jobs have been even more difficult. And we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for going out every day, getting in your cars, and running the risks that you do. And we can’t thank you enough. Thank you from our friends, family, and all of us here in the Illinois State Senate, Thank you for what you do for us every day.”

The Illinois Fraternal Order of Police also participated in the celebration of National Police Week. On May 15, they organized two notable events: the Annual National Peace Officers' Memorial Service Wreath Laying and Stand Watch for the Fallen. These events allowed the community to come together and honor those who have died in the line of duty.

National Police Week serves as a reminder of the selfless dedication and sacrifice of law enforcement officers nationwide. It is a time for their communities to express appreciation and support for their invaluable service.
