WASHINGTON — On June 22, Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski launched “Farm Bill 101” —  an initiative focused on highlighting the important role the Farm Bill plays in communities across Central and Southern Illinois, and the need to pass the legislation this year. Budzinski is a member of the House Committee on Agriculture and three of its subcommittees focused on commodity exchanges, rural development and agricultural research.

“The Farm Bill is one of the most important bills Congress is tasked with passing this year, but the noise and nonsense in Washington is distracting too many from getting this important work done,” said Congresswoman Budzinski. “On June 22, I’m launching ‘Farm Bill 101’ to highlight just how important this legislation is to our economy in Central and Southern Illinois, and how rumored delays would create incredible uncertainty for family farmers and rural communities throughout the Heartland. I look forward to showcasing the incredible agricultural assets throughout the 13th District — and the people in our communities who are bringing family farming into the 21st century.”

Rumors have been swirling around Congress that the 2023 Farm Bill could be delayed to 2024, with temporary program extensions in a future budget deal. Budzinski launched her Farm Bill 101 initiative with a Fox News op-ed outlining the uncertainty a delay would cause for farmers, families, schools and businesses across Central and Southern Illinois, and calling on her colleagues to get serious about passing a bipartisan package on time.

Budzinski’s Farm Bill 101 initiative includes a web page explaining what’s included in the Farm Bill, her priorities in the legislation and the ways Central and Southern Illinois communities benefit from the bill. The initiative will also include regular videos and graphics on Congresswoman Budzinski’s social media accounts that tell the story of the Farm Bill and the impact the legislation has on families and communities throughout the district she serves.
