State Senator Sally J. Turner | Illinois General Assembly
State Senator Sally Turner (R-Beason) has been appointed to serve on the Senate Republicans’ Budget Negotiation Team for the discussions on the Fiscal Year 2025 budget. Illinois Senate Republican Leader John Curran (R-Downers Grove) expressed his confidence in Senator Turner, stating, “As an experienced local government leader, Sen. Turner brings a valued perspective on the unique needs of local communities to the budget-making process.” He believes she will be instrumental in advocating for initiatives that prioritize Illinois families during the crafting of this year’s spending plan.
Senator Turner herself expressed her gratitude for the appointment, saying, “I am honored to be chosen to be a part of our Caucus’ budget negotiation team and look forward to advocating on behalf of the people of Central Illinois as we discuss state spending priorities.” She acknowledged the challenges ahead due to the depletion of federal relief funds and lower projected revenues, emphasizing her commitment to protecting the spending priorities of everyday Illinois families.
Joining State Senators Don DeWitte (R-St. Charles), Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet), and Seth Lewis (R-Bartlett), Senator Turner will engage in bipartisan discussions to determine the priorities that will guide spending for the fiscal year starting on July 1, 2024.
In addition to her role on the Budget Negotiation Team, Senator Turner will also serve on various committees, including Assignments, Agriculture, Appropriations-Education, Early Childhood Education, Higher Education, and Revenue. She holds the distinguished position of co-chair of the Senate State Government Committee, making her one of only two Senate Republicans to serve as a co-chair since the early 2000s.
