State Senator Sally Turner (R-Beason), State Representative Bill Hauter (R-Morton), Logan County Board Chairman Emily Davenport, and Lincoln Mayor Tracy Welch have jointly expressed their condemnation of the decision to close the Logan Correctional Center by the Pritzker Administration.

In a statement released, the officials expressed their dismay at the closure, stating, "The decision by the Governor’s Administration to close the Logan Correctional Center without any assurance of its reopening within Logan County is both devastating and infuriating." They pointed out that while they acknowledge the need for repairs at the correctional center, they believe its current state of disrepair is a result of neglect and misplaced priorities of the Administration.

Highlighting the significance of the correctional center to the local communities, the officials emphasized, "Logan Correctional is an instrumental part of Lincoln and its surrounding communities. It provides more than 500 direct jobs, hundreds more indirect jobs, and immeasurable local economic benefits." They pledged to fight for the preservation of these jobs and to ensure that the communities receive the necessary answers from the Governor's Administration.

The closure of the Logan Correctional Center has sparked strong reactions from the elected officials, who are committed to advocating for the interests of their constituents and the economic well-being of the region.
